GARFIELD TOWNSHIP TRANSFER STATION
The Transfer Station is a valuable township service for handling household residential trash from Garfield Township property owners who pay the transfer station tax assessment. Renters or Lessee’s must bring proof of township residency in the form of a utility bill to verify your address.
Everyone must bring vehicle, registration, and photo I.D. to obtain a permit sticker.
Disclaimer
Operations are governed by Township ordinance, State Laws and Waste Management Inc. rules. Violation of rules is a misdemeanor by law. Materials brought to the transfer station become the property of Garfield Township and may not be removed.
Operating Hours
Wednesdays: 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturdays: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Permit Stickers
You must have a valid permit sticker on your vehicle. Permit stickers are obtained through the Township Clerk’s office.
Receivable Materials
Compactor -Household rubbish. Must be in bags or in loose pieces (NO items over 3 ft in length). NO yard waste. NO hot ashes
Weed Waste - clippings, leaves, debris. Brush must be under 4” diameter. Empty bagged material and dispose of plastic bags in compactor
Metal Items – Appliances, metal scrap
Fencing – must be rolled, tied, posts removed. Metal fencing goes in scrap metal dumpster
Building or Demolition scrap – Limit one level pickup truckload per day. If you have more take it to the Harrison Landfill or rent a dumpster
Furniture – Upholstered furniture, mattresses
Recycling – paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and metal food & beverage cans
Non-receivable Waste items – Some materials cannot be received at the transfer station such as: Medical waste that is not decontaminated, used motor oils, lead acid batteries,, asbestos, computers, printers, regulated waste materials, liquid waste, sewage, empty drums

Small Business & Commercial Trash
In some cases, permits may be available for small businesses to used the transfer station at 2X the residential assessment rate. Call the Township office for details, cost & eligibility.
Non-profit Donations
The Friends of Garfield Township Non-profit organization is receiving returnable cans and bottles at the transfer station. Donations collected by the Friends group goes toward improving our township parks.
